Howard Drawing Interest
Gainesville (FL) Buchholz High School wide receiver/defensive back Naquan Howard may be one prospect to watch during the 2013 season. The rising junior saw limited action last season as a sophomore due to an injury during the first month of the season but started getting noticed this spring. The talented junior got the eye of at least a couple of schools this past May. East Carolina, Florida Atlantic and Miami have all expressed interest according to both Howard and Buchholz head coach Mark Whittemore. "I talked to ECU defensive back coach Rick Smith in May and Florida Atlantic came to watch practice as well. I also got an invite to Miami's football camp so I am going down there next week. I have to go down there and show out at the Miami camp and get my name out there," said Howard of his recruitment. While still trying to draw the eyes of college recruiters he has certainly gotten the attention of his head coach after a limited but successful sophomore campaign. Last season in four games he had 13 tackles from his cornerback slot and two catches for 27 yards before a hip flexor injury sidelined him for the rest of the season. The 6-foot-0 and 175-pound athlete did have long enough to demonstrate his ability as a dangerous kickoff return man racking up 240 yards on nine returns for an average of almost 27 yards per return. "His work ethic is tremendous both on the football field and off. His drive to get better combined with his length, size and speed make him a great prospect at the next level. I think he has the ability to play either receiver or defensive back in college. Naqaun has excellent hands, 4.4 speed on my clock and has great leaping ability," said Coach Whittemore. Look for more updates on Naquan Howard as the summer camp season continues.
