Washington showed up at Ole Miss elite camp this month with little fanfare within Mississippi, but college recruiters have taken notice.
"(Ole Miss running backs) Coach (Derrick) Nix wanted me here," Washington said. "This
is my trip to Ole Miss, so I just wanted to take a look around."
What did the 6' 3", 195-pound defensive end want to see on the Oxford campus?
"I'm looking to have a good showing at their camp and see if the players are having fun."
Nix scouted Washington at one of his spring practices and has just started building a relationship with the All-District performer.
"We just met in person yesterday when I got up here. He called my coach and wanted to talk to me. When he called my coach he was watching my film, he said he really liked my playing style and he liked the way I come off of the ball."
Washington wanted to see see what it would be like to work under the Ole Miss coaches.
"I wanted to learn how they treat their players. After working out with them for the day I saw that they really work you hard but they're real easy to get a long with and all. I liked their coaching style a lot."
Other schools showing interest?
"Arizona, Ole Miss, MSU, Louisiana-Lafayette, Alcorn and Tennessee have been sending me a bunch of mail. They all dropped by for one of my practices this spring."
Washington has learned a little about the Bulldogs, too, in the recruiting process.
"They're an agriculture school and they started (recruiting me) early, as soon as the season was over with. They started contacting me and came up to the school a couple of times. Coach (David) Turner and Coach Knox are recruiting me for State. They call and check up on me a good bit."
What stands out about the Bulldogs?
"They have a good football team. I went down there for a scrimmage game they had in the spring and I met some of their staff and some of their players. It's nice over there."
