"It was really nice," Johnson said. "My coach took me
and teammate down to visit some southern schools. I've always been intrigued
by the SEC so I wanted to check out Alabama and Ole Miss. FSU has been on me
really hard to so I wanted to go down there and check out their campus too."
The first stop was to Tuscaloosa.
"I took a tour of their academic and football facilities. It was the same
thing I did over at Ole Miss and FSU. It was nothing out of the ordinary."
What impressed the 6' 7", 325-pound Johnson the most about the Tide visit?
"I'd say their facilities and strength and conditioning coach. He brings
a lot of intensity to the weight room. That was nice to see."
Next up was Florida State.
"It was nice down there too. I enjoyed myself at Florida State."
The Seminoles had a couple areas that stood out as well.
"I really liked their facilities and strength program. They have a very
good strength program."
Before heading back to Missouri, he made his last stop at Ole Miss.
"Coach (Tom) Allen has been getting in contact with me a lot on the social
media networks so I wanted to go check it out. We have a good relationship.
I stayed for the night and got a good look at their campus"
What did he want to find out about the Rebels on the visit, and what did he
learn about those issues?
"I just wanted to get a feel for the school academic-wise. They do pretty
good with their APR and have a good computer science program. That's what I
want to major in."
The All-State performer got a chance to see the Ole Miss players go through
a voluntary summer workout.
"They did pretty good. They got a good workout in, and then me and my coach
went in to watch some film with the Ole Miss coaches. They want to put me at
left tackle. I guess what impressed me the most about Ole Miss was their campus
and academic facilities. It's a pretty good school. It was pretty much what
I was expecting. I always had high expectations for Ole Miss. Alabama and FSU
for that matter too."
Johnson is now focused on his senior season.
"I think I'm pretty much done with my visits now. I got a look at everybody
I really wanted to see over the last few months. I'm going to focus on my senior
season now. Everybody is pretty much equal. I'm not going to narrow it down
until after my season is over. It'll probably be a signing day before I decide."
What will be the important factors in his decision?
"I want to see how the players get a long with their coaches and see what
their life is like after football. I want to get a feel for the coaches and
see what kind of bond they have with their players."
