Kelly Gets First FBS Offer
Tallahassee (FL) Rickards High School quarterback/athlete Charlie Kelly picked up his first FBS scholarship offer last week as well as his second FCS offer. UAB offered the 5-foot-9 and 190-pound Kelly after he attended their satellite camp in Dothan, Alabama. His second FCS offer came from Southeastern Louisiana according to Kelly and Rickards head coach Quintin Lewis. Alabama State extended Kelly is first offer earlier in the spring. "It felt great," said Kelly of his first FBS offer. "I didn't know as much about UAB when I got the offer as I do now. It feels good that they want me to be a part of their program. They have offered me as a running back." The rising senior who was the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Offensive Player of the Year as a junior also has been receiving interest from Georgia State and Massachusetts. He got a chance to showcase is talented for members of both staff's recently at Georgia State's camp. "I am currently waiting for Georgia State to get back with me and I am supposed to talk to UMass next Tuesday to see what they thought of my performance from camp," said Kelly. Last season as a junior Kelly passed for 1,898 yards on 126 completions and 16 touchdowns while attempting 213 passes. The talented but small quarterback is also a threat running the ball. Last season he ran for 680 rushing yards on 112 carries and eight scores. Head coach Quentin Lewis said of Kelly, "He is the most explosive player in the city, he can't be tackled in a phone booth." Lewis says that Kelly gives his team the best chance to win at quarterback but said this of his versatility, "He has the best hands on the team and is our best route runner."
