Scout's analysts focus on which linemen from their region they're most looking forward to seeing...
Scout.com's complete coverage of The Opening 2013 presented by NIKE
The Scout.com national recruiting analysts will be in Beaverton, Oregon, all week for
at the Nike Headquarters. Leading up to The Opening, a gathering of 150 of the top prospects from all across the country, they are focusing on some of the key things to watch in the summer's biggest event.
Which prospect on the offensive or defensive line from your region are you most excited to see on the big stage at The Opening?
Scott Kennedy (Director of Scouting):
Can I cheat and say all of them? After an entire spring of shorts and t-shirts, it is a breath of fresh air to see these guys get suited up in pads and have a much closer simulation to actual football. The NFTC's are geared towards the quicker, faster defensive ends, but The Opening shifts the balance back towards the power players on the offensive line and interior defensive line. That being said, I'm probably most interested in seeing
, the No. 1 defensive tackle in the nation, again. I saw him at the DC NFTC, and he showed tremendous quickness, now I want to see the total package.
Brian Dohn (East):
It is Woodbridge (Va) High’s
for the simple reason being he has been the top-rated player in the region since our 2014 rankings came out, and how I want to see him go against the best in the nation and see where he stacks up.
Jamie Newberg (South):
No offense to all the ‘Bigs’ but the one linemen I am most anxious to see is defensive end
. This is a great athlete with size, speed, and athleticism. There will be some epic battles in Oregon with him against Cameron Robinson and the rest of that group.
Chad Simmons (South):
is the guy for me. He has slimmed down about 15 pounds this year, he is a prototypical left tackle, and he could challenge for the top prospect in the country before all is said and done. He is a kid I could see going very early in the NFL Draft one day if all plays out right for him.
Greg Powers (Midlands):
has been dominating Texas 5A competition for the past two seasons and should be one of the most physically gifted defensive linemen in the country. He will test extremely well at over 260 pounds. He has been right on the 5-star cut off line on the network for sometime and there have been questions whether or not he will grow in to a DT in college. This competition will give him a chance to show what he can do and that he has the quickness and strength of an elite DE. Will that be enough to make him a 5-star?
Allen Trieu (Midwest):
just committed to Alabama and I think that surprised some folks, but he's such a strong, tough kid and a good technician, that he has been successful at every camp stop we've seen him at. If he can continue that at The Opening, he's certainly a kid who can continue his ascent as far as the rankings go.
Greg Biggins (West):
Lompoc (Calif.) defensive tackle
. Taua may only be 6-0 on a good day but he has dominated at every camp he has been at. He's very explosive off the ball and is so strong in his upper body, he's tough to handle. He uses his hands well, has a relentless motor and can get underneath bigger guards and push them backwards. Can he do that at a camp as loaded as The Opening? We'll see.
Brandon Huffman (West):
Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco offensive lineman
is one of the nastiest linemen we've seen on the camp circuit this spring, dominating at the L.A. NFTC and then again last weekend at the PTP Kumite Camp. Mama is making a case for the West's top offensive lineman and he's versatile enough to be a tackle or guard, and he may work at both positions. For being 6-5, 360, he moves really light on his feet and in pads, it should be entertaining to see him.
