Cane Holds Early Offers
2015 Nashville (TN) Ezell-Harding Christian cornerback Elias Cane is starting to gather more and more attention on the recruiting trail. He entered the summer with zero offers, but now stands at six. UT-Chattanooga, Akron, Louisiana Tech, Rutgers, Maryland, and Virginia have all sent an offer Cane's way. "I talked to the coaches from those schools and they all just say that they really like my film," Cane explained. "They all told me that they think I'm going to get a lot bigger. I still have to do some research because I really don't know much about those schools. I know Virginia recruits the Nashville area though. Maryland told me that they compared me to Tyrann Mathieu. I wanted to go visit Maryland this week but I wasn't able to." With six offers under his belt, Cane could start to become a known commodity in recruiting circles. A few top programs are beginning to show interest in the rising junior. "Four schools recruiting me hard right now but haven't offered are Oregon, Ohio State, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt," he said. "I have a lot of interaction with those staffs. We talk to each other usually about three times a week." "Vanderbilt is my home city so I've been there quite a bit and I've been to Tennessee a few times already as well," he added. "I really like the coaching staffs at those two schools and Ohio State. I was a bit surprised to hear from Oregon actually." Cane went in-depth about his interaction with Ohio State and how it originated. "For Ohio State, I actually reached out to them and talked to Coach (Tim) Hinton and told him I was interested in their program," he admitted. "I sent them some film and then they talked to my coach. I also have talked to Coach Coombs a couple times now. They let me know that they would be keeping an eye on me and watching my progress." "I reached out to Ohio State because I know some of the other players around me and they like Ohio State," he continued. "C.J. (Sanders) is really high on Ohio State and I want to go somewhere where I have friends and know people. I really like their coaches. I love Coach (Urban) Meyer. I have been following his career since he was at Utah. They also have great tradition and have had great players. A lot of their players have won the Heisman Trophy like Archie Griffin and they have a huge fan base." The Nashville native has a few visits he would like to take. "I want to get to Ohio State for a game in the fall," Cane stressed. "I want to go to Vanderbilt and Tennessee again. I've already been to South Carolina and Clemson. Clemson was a real good visit. I might take a visit to Virginia with Drew (Richmond) too."
