Joe Mixon is a tremendous talent and might have been the most impressive running back in the event. Now mind you, running back is probably the one position that doesn’t always translate well to 7 on 7 since there is no pads and no hitting, but Mixon still managed to shine.
He impressed onlookers during the NFTC portion of the camp with his size, speed and smooth running style. He also tested well in the SPARQ portion of the camp measuring at a solid 6-1, 210 pounds and clocked a 4.53-40 and a 4.19 in the shuttle.
On the recruiting front, Mixon has a big unofficial visit coming up later this month and said there are two schools he knows he will officially visit.
“I’m going to Wisconsin July 12-14th,” Mixon said. “This is big for me, I’ve heard great things about the place so I’m excited to get out there. After this trip, that’s when I’ll cut my list. I’m at 16 now so my next cut will be down to seven or eight more likely.
“I haven’t set up any official visits yet but two school I know I’ll visit for sure are Georgia and Oklahoma. After that, I’m still wide open. I still like the in-state schools, California, USC and UCLA but I don’t know if I’ll visit because I’ve already been there and can always just take an unofficial.”
Mixon said he’s planning to announce his decision at the Army All-American game and would like to have all five of his visits in the books before he decides.
“I want to take some during the season and then the others right after,” Mixon said. “It should work out just fine, I’ll have time before the All-American game and then once I decide, that will be it for me. I’m just committing one time and then shutting down the process.”
