Ranking Update: Hassenauer Makes Big Move

After outstanding performances all offseason long, Alabama commit J.C. Hassenauer (East Ridge, Minn.) made a major move in the rankings.

No matter what the stage has been, the U.S. Army Combine, the NIKE Football Training Camps, the Adidas Invitational, or against the very best in the country at The Opening last week, J.C. Hassenauer has always come to play and today, the East Ridge High School prospect moved to the number one center spot and into four-star range.

While it was not solely based on these camps, last week's dominating performance in Oregon was the final push needed for the Alabama commit to make the move he long deserved.

"He as one of the most pleasant surprises of the camp," Scout national analyst Greg Powers said. "He is very quick off of the ball and has the power to fend off the strongest defensive tackles. He plays with good pad leverage, staying low and balanced and can also handle the quicker defensive linemen."

Hassenauer was chosen as the offensive line MVP by the staff at The Opening, and was dominating in the best of the best portion, which pitted him against Ainuu Taua, who had been giving offensive linemen fits all week.

"Hassenauer did a really nice job of handling the pressure of playing center, which is no easy proposition in a competition like this one," Scout national analyst Brian Dohn reported. "He was able to snap the ball and move his feet quickly while keeping a wide base and not getting pushed back. And when the pressure was on in the Final Five, he stone-walled one of the top defensive tackles in the event in Lompoc (Calif.) High’s Ainuu Taua."

He added, "In three reps, Hassenauer went undefeated. On the first one, he was able to counter Taua’s quick hands with his own hand movements, then held perfect position when Taua tried a spin move but lost his footing. The series ended with Taua trying to use power, but to no avail. Even Taua was impressed, showing good sportsmanship by tapping Hassenauer on the helmet after the battle."

Hassenauer, 6'3, 292-pounds, held offers from Minnesota and Vanderbilt before earning a Crimson Tide offer and committing to Nick Saban and company in June.
