“I've been to North Carolina and Appalachian State this summer for camps,” said Austin Proehl. “I thought I did pretty well at both. I’m going to Virginia Tech’s camp later this month and Wake Forest, too.”
The Providence standout holds scholarship offers from Ohio and Wake Forest, but feels like more could be on the way.
“North Carolina said they’re close because of what I did at their camp,” said the 5-foot-11, 170-pound Proehl. “Virginia Tech has been saying I just need to come to camp and they think they could offer. I think Appalachian State could also offer.”
Proehl said Washington is also showing a significant amount of interest and that he could possibly visit them at some point this summer.
Despite the two offers, Proehl said he does not have any favorites.
“Right now, I’d say I’m still wide open because I want to keep an open mind,” he said. “Obviously, Wake Forest and Ohio believed in me before anyone else did – and gave me an offer. So, now, I just have to see where I feel most comfortable.
He has a tentative schedule for the rest of the summer.
“I’m just trying to sit back – be patient – and find a place that fits me,” he said. “I’ll probably go to Virginia Tech, Wake (Forest) and maybe Washington – just to make a final round of visits.”
Proehl plans to make a decision in the near future.
“I definitely want to make my decision before the season starts,” he said. “I've visited enough places and had a chance to meet with the coaches, so I think I should be ready to make a decision by then.”
Last season, Proehl finished with 504 yards receiving, 503 yards passing, 189 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns. He also returned a punt 65 yards and a kickoff 85 yards for touchdowns.
