How good was Virginia Beach Bayside star safety Quin Blanding at The Opening? He was the only defensive prospect to be a unanimous selection to the all-defensive team for this event. We had eight national scouts there and we all voted for Blanding.

Blanding, 6-foot-2 and 209-pounds, may be underrated as the No. 3 ranked safety in the country (No. 1 Juju Smith from Long Beach Poly and Jamal Adams from Lewisville, Texas/Hebron). That's sounds funny but it's true. This kid is so steady and rarely gets beaten. He makes play after play and always puts himself in the right position, whether it's a key stop, pass breakup or interception. At the Opening he was all over the place and you could make a case that he was not only the top safety at the event but the top player overall.

Blanding is not the fastest defensive back or the most explosive. He's not the biggest or the most athletic. But he's rock solid, smart, and instinctual and just a big time football player who does everything very well. He would be the first guy I would pick to patrol my secondary at safety.

Blanding has committed to Virginia.
