So far, 12 players in East Texas' 2015 class hold at least one FBS offer. Here's a look at several…
Lane to camp with TCU
Still, he awaits that first scholarship offer. But he is not worried. "It's still so early," Lane said. "I'm just focused on the (upcoming) season and on making sure I do what I need to do for Central to be successful." With that, the offer door should open. Texas, TCU, Auburn, Florida State, Notre Dame, Boise State and Utah have all expressed an interest in the 6-foot-2, 170-pound corner and will be keeping a close eye this fall. Lane admitted his height alone sets him apart at the position. "Not a lot of 6-1, 6-2 guys play corner. It takes a lot. The shorter guys are closer to the ground so they're normally quicker, but I feel I bring that same speed with my height. I use my vertical coverage to my advantage." Believe it or not, this vertical coverage was developed just in the last year, when Lane was moved from receiver to the secondary mid-sophomore season. "The coaches actually threw me in at free safety the first game, then moved me to corner when defenses changed; Found out I was good and I stuck with it," Lane smiled. "I think being a receiver my whole life helped me at DB, knowing what a receiver's thinking, what they're trying to do. I know what to watch for." He's also studied others at the defensive back position- particularly three in the class ahead of him. "Jamal Adams, Tony Brown, Arrion Springs… those are three of the best to play the position. I watched Arrion Springs at the Texas camp, and was able to pick up a few things from him. I love watching Jamal do the jam. I've been working on that." "My footwork and my hips, and reading receivers' routes, those are three things I'm focusing on most this offseason," Lane continued. "I've become a lot better at it through a lot of 7on7 and just putting myself through drills daily." "In the end, I'm just trying to be the best version of me." Lane, having already camped at Texas in June, will camp with TCU Friday, July 19, noting, "That will probably be my last camp this summer."
