Owen Roberts played primarily offensive guard in the Gauchos up tempo offense a year ago but has been hitting the camp circuit this past summer as a defensive tackle. At a very well built 6-2, 270 pounds, Roberts definitely looks the part of a future college lineman and is one of the most athletic lineman in the SoCal region.
“He’s definitely a Div I player,” Gaucho head coach Manuel Douglas said. “He has been a very good player for us and has the grades to go anywhere too. He’s a great kid, very coachable and works extremely hard. He’s going to have a big year for us.”
Roberts was very active on the camp circuit and hit up several colleges.
“I camped with Boise State, Nevada, San Diego State and Colorado State,” Roberts said. “I’m also hearing from New Mexico and New Mexico State. Boise State, New Mexico and Nevada are the schools that seem most interested and said they could offer.
“I did well at the camps but the coaches said they want to see my senior film at defensive tackle before offering. Of all the camps I did, I really liked Boise State a lot. They have a great program and it felt like home to me there. I also liked Nevada a lot, both of those two places were really nice. I’m just excited for our season to start, I think we could surprise some people.”
