On Wednesday evening, I posed a simple question to my faithful twitter followers; "Which senior high school football player in Mississippi without an SEC offer is most deserving of one?". The people have spoken and despite several names being mentioned, there was a run away winner.

Madison Ridgeland offensive lineman Sean Rawlings who holds offers from Louisiana and Louisiana Tech was a popular choice as was Northwest Rankin kicker Cason Gooch.

Wide receivers Fred Trevillion (Brookhaven), Southern Miss commitment Korey Robertson (Greenwood) and D'marius Gillespie of Center Hill were all serious vote getters.

In the end, the name mentioned as most deserving by the fans was wide receiver Marcus Green of North Pontotoc in tiny Ecru, Mississippi.

Green has put together a sizzling summer running a 4.43 at the Tupelo combine, a 4.41 at Ole Miss, a 4.38 at Mississippi State's June camp and finally a blistering 4.31 in the 40 yard dash at last week's Big Dawg camp at Mississippi State.

North Pontotoc head football coach Brian Sutton admits he is a little biased towards his talented player, but he agrees with popular opinion.

Marcus Green is an SEC talent.

"You know Marcus has great speed, great hands and a lot of talent," said Sutton. "He is a hard worker and he handled his business in the classroom.

"He is a great leader and just a great guy to be around.

"We're real proud of him and we feel like he can play somewhere.

"We all consider the SEC the elite of the elite and he might have the chance to go up there and do something."

Mississippi State and Ole Miss have both shown some interest in the blazing slot receiver.

"Ole Miss already had (D.K.) Buford committed, so when Marcus went up there they wanted him to work on the defensive side of the ball," said Sutton. "He did it, but he's more comfortable on the offensive side of the football.

"Mississippi State has worked him out at slot receiver and they just fell in love with him.

"They are trying to figure out a way to get him up there. If they had a full 25 scholarships, he would probably already have the offer.

"Coach (Dan) Mullen has told Marcus just to be patient."

Green currently holds an offer from UL-Monroe and more options are expected to come as the season progresses.

"There are some schools that have been talking about him and it might be two or three games into the season, but I feel certain he is going to get some more offers," said Sutton. "He has that elite speed and he can catch anything.

"I know some guys look at him and he's about 5-10 and they might be a little hesitant, but you can't make yourself any taller.

"He's worked hard to improve everything he can to be the best player he can be."

Green and the North Pontotoc Vikings start fall practice August 5th. When he takes the field this fall, the talented wide out will be the first Viking to ever step foot on the home surface with a division one football offer in hand.

"We have had some back over the years that have gone on through the junior college system and gone on to play D1 football, but we believe Marcus is the first to get those type of offers in high school," said Sutton. "That is something that we're proud about too.

"He's worked hard and he's earned all of this. We're just hoping he gets the chance to keep going and continue his career and his education because that's what matters most."
