Jersey City (NJ) St. Peter’s Preparatory School quarterback Brandon Wimbush is a prospect that could garner a lot more attention as his recruitment continues on. He starred at the Elite 11 regional in Washington D.C. and has since been hearing from many top schools.
With seven scholarship offers already in his possession, Wimbush traveled to Columbus to camp in front of the Ohio State staff.
“Ohio State had been up to my school a bit because them and Jonathan Hilliman have been in contact and they liked him,” the signal caller pointed out. “They liked me and I’ve been in contact with them ever since. I wanted to see what it was like there so I came up for the camp. I got there late but they still showed me around on a short tour and I had a great time. It felt like home to me just being there for one day. I saw the academics and the progression rate and they were number one so it was good to see.”
“I really liked the stadium and I felt like I needed to do my best in front of their coaches,” he added. “They are a big-time football program and you have to bring your best game if you want to get what you came to earn.”
Wimbush discussed his performance at the Friday Night Lights camp at Ohio State and what the staff told him afterwards.
“There was a lot of good quarterbacks there which was good to see,” he stated. “At camps like that, it can be a mess if the quarterbacks aren’t throwing it well but we all performed at a high level and gave the receivers a chance to make plays. It is Ohio State and it is on the biggest stage of college football so I was motivated to do well. I could have had more completions but it was difficult because I didn’t have the chemistry or timing with the receivers that I needed. I feel like I did well with the agility stuff beforehand. I listened to Coach (Tom) Herman and followed his direction and I felt like I held up my own.”
“They said to call them Tuesday,” Wimbush continued. “I will be calling Coach Warinner tomorrow and they said good news could be on the way in terms of an offer. It is not definite but I’m hopeful.”
The New Jersey rising junior described what an offer from Ohio State would mean to him.
“They have some great history in their program and now with Coach (Urban) Meyer makes Ohio State really attractive,” he explained. “The program is top-notch and they’re going to keep it running like they have in the last year. They have Braxton Miller so they’re going to stay on top. It’s a football town at Ohio State so I loved it. An offer from them is something I hope to get and I hope I put in the work to receive it.”
Since he only spent a short time in Columbus, Wimbush already wants to make a return visit to see more of the Buckeyes.
“I definitely want to get to Ohio State again soon,” he said. “I hope to make the drive out there in the fall to check out a game. It is tough to make that work but it’s something I want to see. I’d like to check out the game-day atmosphere and see the rest of the campus that I didn’t get to this time.”
