Early offers important to Peete
Devante Peete has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Ohio State, Miami, Florida, Auburn, West Virginia, and more. USC has been showing a lot of interest and could offer soon. "I'm highly interested in a lot of schools right now, I'm just gaining offers right now, then I'll go from there," Peete said. "The schools that offered me early will be in the lead." Peete continues to work hard and hone his craft at the wide receiver position. He knows he has a lot of room to grow, but it means a lot to him that some programs have offered him this early. He appreciates that they see potential in him. This summer, the 6-foot-5, 200-pound receiver didn't do much traveling, but he camped with Miami. A lifelong Hurricanes fan, he'd been waiting and hoping for that Miami offer, and he got it at camp. "I kind of expected it based on how the day was going, how I talked to all the coaches. After the camp, I went down to Coach Golden's office and I sat with the coaching staff, I had conversations with the coaching staff, got a little tour around the campus," he said. "It was an offer I wanted, so I was very proud, and I worked for it. I grew up as a Miami fan." The St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, FL) receiver picked up an offer from the Gators this spring and has kept up good communication with Florida Wide Receivers Coach Joker Phillips. "Florida has been showing a lot of interest since I received the offer. I've had conversations with Coach Joker, he's telling me how badly he wants to coach me and much he likes me. As a kid, that kind of motivates me as I'm going into my junior year," Peete said. "They would be in my top at the end of the day when it comes down to picking my college." Ohio State and Alabama are other programs Peete has his eye on early. "I talk to Florida, I talk to Miami, I'm interested in Ohio State and Alabama right now. A couple of coaches from Alabama have told me they're going to come down and see me, Ohio State coaches are going to try to get down. I'm building relationships with coaches," he said. Peete is still taking things slow this year and plans to make a decision sometime during his senior year. He wants to visit as many schools that have offered him as he can and get to know the coaches there. This fall, he plans to attend games at Miami and Florida.
