MS Elite Media Day: Tyler Polk
"I played quarterback and receiver for us last fall," Polk said at the Elite Underclassmen Media Day Saturday in Jackson. "I think receiver is my best position because I can get open, and I have good route running. I also have good hands."
Tyler's freshman season was unlike most 14 year old young men.
"My freshman season I rushed for over a 1,000 yards. I had 16 rushing touchdowns and 18 total touchdowns. We only won four games, but I think next year we are going to be better."
Polk has already seen some improvements in his game this offseason.
"I have gotten faster and stronger. I have gotten smarter, and I am just more experienced now."
The 5' 11", 165-pounder has been to a few college camps this summer.
"I have been to LSU and USM camps."
The Ocean Springs resident talked about the LSU camp.
"The LSU camp was good. I did not think I was going to do so good, but I went up there, and the coaches asked where I was from and my name. I went up against the top sophomores, and then at the end I went up against the top sophomores and juniors. They told me that I really stood out there. They told me that they liked my route running ability and that I had some nice speed on me. They told me to keep working, and I was going to make it, and they were going to start keeping in touch with me.
"I did pretty good in the one-on-one but like the agility and the 40 and all that I did not do too hot. I ran like a 4.61 which is bad for me. But like when we went in the one-on-one drills I was going against top sophomores, juniors, and seniors. There was a player that was committed to Arkansas that I did really well against, and I think that caught their eye."
Who else is showing Polk recruiting attention.
"Ole Miss has been sending me a lot of letters. I am really high on Ole Miss. I like their style of play. USM has been sending me a lot of letters. MSU, Nebraska, and Michigan are also sending me a lot of letters. I also like how Michigan plays."
