Over the past few months, Ricky DeBerry’s recruitment has exploded.
Now, DeBerry is the No. 2 player in the East Region.
“It feels really good,” DeBerry said. “It’s a blessing from God – I give him all the credit. None of this would be possible without him.”
DeBerry is happy about all the accolades, but not satisfied.
“It shows that the hard work is paying off, but it makes you want to work even harder," he said. "A lot of guys get complacent and I don’t want to do that.”
“There is always someone out there trying to take your spot, so you always want to do the extra work and little things to keep you on top.”
His family has played a big role in his success.
“My dad pushes me, my mom pushes me and I push myself to be the best I can be,” DeBerry said. “Both of my parents want to be involved in this process. But in the end, they just want me to be happy with whatever school I choose.”
“I’m also trying to become one of the first guys in my family to play Division I sports and that drives me. I want to be a role model for others, too.”
St. Christopher’s opens theirs season on the road against Midlothian on August 22.
DeBerry has a unique combination of power and speed. He fires of the ball and plays with great leverage. DeBerry also does a nice job using his hands to shed blocks.
He plays sideline to sideline and has a non-stop motor. DeBerry also has a high football I.Q. and a knack for making big plays.
Overall, he is one of the top prospects in the country and his best football is ahead of him.
