It did not take long for Shattle Fenteng to respond to the offer Georgia extended less than a week ago.
Head Coach Mark Richt and (defensive backs) Scott Lakatos have had conversations with Fenteng in recent days and the Dawgs got big news from the cornerback on Tuesday.
“I have committed to Georgia and I feel very strong about my decision,” Fenteng said to Scout. “It is a relief to commit, put the recruiting process behind me, and know that I am going to Georgia. I am happy about my decision and happy to have the process done with.”
Fenteng picked Georgia over Ole Miss and many other offers and the 6-foot-1 ½, 184 pound corner out of Hutchinson Community College is going back home.
“I am from Georgia and I played at Grayson High School, so I will only be about an hour away from home now. My parents were very happy when Georgia offered me and they are very happy to have me close to home again. It is great. I will get to represent my home state now as a Georgia Bulldog.”
Ole Miss held the lead up until Georgia stepped in with an offer last week. Fenteng has connections to each school with former high school teammates at Ole Miss and a former Hutchinson teammate now at UGA.
He is excited about joining Toby Johnson.
“Toby really likes it at Georgia and he has told me about how things are there, so it will be great to play with him again. I know a lot about Georgia and I am excited to be a Bulldog. Georgia is a winning program, they play in the SEC, and I feel I can make an immediate impact there. The coaches told me that I am highest on their list at cornerback, so I liked that a lot.”
The Dawgs want Fenteng to get to Athens and jam wide receivers at the line of scrimmage. The big corner will be ready for that.
“The coaches have talked to me about playing press coverage, being that boundary corner for them, and they expect me to play right away,” Fenteng said. “I am very excited about the opportunity and I am happy about being a Bulldog.”
Fenteng plans to arrive in Athens in June 2014. He will have three years to play two.
