Orchard Lake (Mich.) St. Mary's has yet another Division-1 prospect on their roster in rising sophomore LB-RB Daelin Hayes.

St. Mary's Prep is a program which college coaches always need to be aware of as the Eaglets have always had next level talent on the team.

This season, they not only have juniors and seniors who are being recruited, but several freshmen and sophomores with early attention as well. One of them is Daelin Hayes, whose physical dimensions and athleticism allowed him to play varsity ball as a freshman last season.

The question right now is, will he out-grow his current positions?

"Honestly, we're still trying to figure out where I'll play," he said. "My father is 6'5, and I'm 6'2 (200-pounds) right now. They're letting me stay at running back, but I can play a little bit of everything. I tell them all the time, I'm a football player. I'll play wherever the team needs me, but right now, it's outside linebacker and running back."

Colleges have been in as much contact as they can be for a recruit as young as Hayes.

"Penn State, Nebraska, Akron, Pittsburgh and I've up to Michigan, but I haven't gotten mail from them. I was up there for a spring practice."

Hayes has also visited Michigan State twice in the last week and a half for fall practices.

"So far, I've loved it up there. I like how it is one, close-knit family. It's kind of surreal. You grow up watching the team, hear about the rivalry and next thing you know, you're on a campus on an unofficial visit."

And you find yourself sitting in the head coach's office.

"Today it was even better. I got to sit down one on one with Coach Dantoinio and talked about what type of young man they look for, the type of young men their organization puts together and mold as football players and student-athletes."

Hayes is part of the Maximum Exposure program, so he knows founder Curtis Blackwell, now on staff at Michigan State quite well.

He also has a connection to Michigan, as his cousin, Justice Hayes, is a running back for the Wolverines.

"We don't talk that much on the phone, we do a little bit on Instagram, but he tells me to keep working and it'll all pay off. That's what he says when he can talk, cause he's usually so busy."
