After being pulled up to varsity and receiving a small amount of playing time as a freshman, John Rumpza enjoyed a breakout season last year for Blooming Prairie High School, passing for 3,001 yards (58.6 completion percentage) and 37 touchdowns to nine interceptions.
"Obviously, the game is a lot faster," he said. "You have to have a stronger arm and be able to make bigger throws. Especially in our run and gun offense, you need to be mentally prepared and be ready for the next level."
Combine those big numbers with his 6'5 frame and Rumpza has the makings of a Division-1 recruit.
"Nobody's showing a lot of interest so far, but I have received contact from schools in the border state area: South Dakota State, North Dakota State, Nebraska. I didn't attend any football camps over the summer."
He admits that the recruiting process has not been on his mind to date.
"I really haven't thought about that much at all. I haven't visited any colleges yet and I haven't thought about schools I'd like to attend yet."
That said, another year last season's and there is little doubt that coaches will find their way to Blooming Prairie.
