Sleeper in Georgia has Big Day
Senior Athlete Julian Burris (5'11/175) of Kell High School wasn't in the Scout database when the day started. He was in the database by halftime of his first game.
Burris' Kell squad kicked off the first of five games on Saturday in the Georgia Dome in the annual Corky Kell Classic. Kell put on a show. It didn't take long for Burris to get Chattahoochee's attention as he took the first play from scrimmage for a long touchdown on a screen pass. After being burned on that play, Burris was used as a decoy on a double pass as the defense collapsed on him.
Burris also returned a kickoff for a touchdown and played very well at cornerback.
Maybe his most impressive play was one that won't show up in the box score. Quarterback Matthew McGuigan rolled right and threw an out to Burris who elevated, reached up and out of bounds with his left hand and brought the ball in. The play was called out of bounds, and when I watched it live I was just amazed he caught it. On further review, I'm not sure Burris didn't manage to get his left foot down before he landed out of bounds. If he was in, I can't fault the referee for missing the call. It was an impossible play. He couldn't have come down in bounds. Unless he did.
Another highlight play was a punt return for a touchdown, but it was nullified by a penalty. Whether the plays count on the scoreboard or not, they certainly count when watching highlights of a player, and Burris was a highlight reel in the Dome on Saturday.
