Game Preview: Centennial v. Chandler

Arizona's season gets into full swing with two traditional powers facing off

Peoria (Az.) Centennial (0-0) at Chandler (Az.) High (0-0)

Cox 7 Game of the Week. Kickoff at 7PM

Chandler on Offense: The Wolves have always had an explosive offense and the same can be expected but they are breaking in new players at key spots. Bryce Perkins will get his first start at quarterback and he has the athletic ability to be great. Receivers Dionte Sykes and Mitch McCulley will ease the transition but battled injuries all summer. Chandler also lost their top two RBs from last year, so establishing a ground game early in the season will be crucial.

Chandler on Defense: Chandler has always been knocked as not being able to play defense, this year should be different. The Wolves have one of the best secondaries led by CB Wesley Sutton and Arizona commit J.R. Hunt. DTs Jordan Hoyt and Cruz Flores will make it tough for anyone to run up the middle. Keep an eye on senior LB Lucian Toruga. He and Garrett Jacobson are two solid LBs.

Centennial on Offense: Centennial has been known for producing good offensive linemen and this year may be their best ever. OTs Layth Friekh and Kamryn Bennett have double digit offers, center Tyler Elam was an all-state player last year and guards Mike Cook and Marhsal Nathe round out the best OL in the state. The Coyotes break in a new OC, new QB and RB but expect junior RB Dedrick Young to develop into a big time prospect. WRs Keesean Green, Oche' Myers and Xavier Villanueva round out a quality group.

Centennial on Defense: The strength looks to be at linebacker where Young, Matt Rodriguez and Austin Schleier are a formidable group. There are question marks in the secondary and at DL though. Amare Burks and Dominic Cochrane will get their first starts in the secondary and Brett Tonz has the big task of filling in for Marcus Farria.
