Hardeman: "Defense Was Stellar"
Guys who play defense just think differently. And this is not a bad thing, but when they watch a game they are looking at it (obviously) from a different perspective. Especially guys in the secondary like Houston (Tex.) Alief Taylor cornerback Chris Hardeman, who was on hand to watch his future team in Oklahoma State beat Mississippi State in Reliant Stadium this past Saturday. "I thought that the defense played stellar. Overall, for the team things were kind of shaky," Hardeman said. "The defense had a band-don't-break early on, but really got better as the game went on." Just before the season, the 5-foot-9, 185-pound Hardeman made his commitment to Oklahoma State, after a longtime pledge to LSU ran its course. As for the takeaways from the game, Hardeman touched on a number of subjects as it pertains to him playing with the Cowboys team. On the field, he sees a fit. "Just seeing the team play, I could see myself playing in this system. I really liked how they play a lot of guys in the secondary," Hardeman said. "(Assistant) coach (Van) Malone rotates guys in when they get tired so that there are fresh guys in the game. That's great because I could see myself getting early playing time by being one of those guys who rotates in." Hardeman was also checking out one of the top players in the secondary as well. "I like Justin Gilbert's game a lot. He is a long, rangy cornerback," Hardeman said. "He played a good game and in man-to-man coverage he was great." Interacting with the fans was also a highlight for Hardeman as he said he felt the love from the fans who were surrounding him. He thought that the environment was inviting and that was a plus for him as well. This past week his team won its season opener against Bellaire 22-9. Hardeman had three tackles and three pass break ups. Next week the team takes on defending state champions Katy on Thursday night.
