Purdue hosted Hamilton Heights junior Grant Weatherford, a 6-foot-3, 195-pound wide receiver prospect on Saturday. He saw the Boilers defeat Indiana State and had an overall good time in West Lafayette.
"I really liked it," he said. "I liked how, even though it wasn't a huge game like Purdue-Indiana or Purdue-Notre Dame, they still had a really good turnout of fans. It shows they really care about the team. The atmosphere was great. I talked to a bunch of other people and they told me nothing but good things about Purdue and the coaches were good to talk to."
Weatherford's recruiting process is just picking up, and when he spoke to the Boiler coaches, he says they gave him good feedback.
"When I talked to them, they said they had a couple coaches recommendations and they've heard nothing but good things about me. They said they loved the way I played pride and determination, and heart. They're really interested in me and they're going to pick up recruiting a lot more."
The Boilers are not the only program to show interest.
"I've been getting a lot of things from Nebraska, and just recently, I got invited to Ball State's games."
Should he continue to put up the numbers he has the last few weeks, that list of schools should only continue to grow.
"Our team struggled a little bit the first game, but we went back to work in practice and the second week, we really picked things up and won, then the third week we won. The second game I had seven receptions for 209 yards and four touchdowns. This Friday, week three, I had four catches, 109 yards and two touchdowns."
On the season, Weatherford has 13 receptions, 372 yards and six touchdowns. He also has one rushing touchdown, 21 tackles, a pass break-up, one forced fumble and one recovery.
