The Braves are loaded and their top prospect this year is offensive lineman Damien Mama. Mama is a massive kid who weighed in at 6-4, 370 pounds at The Opening and looked just as big if not even bigger on Friday.
For as big as he is, it always amazes how athletic and how quick his feet are. He flipped between left and right tackle and although a move inside to guard in college is probable, if he were to lose say 40 pounds or so, with his increased quickness by the weight loss, there is no doubt he could play right tackle in college.
On the recruiting front, Mama recently set up his third official visit.
“I’m going to Notre Dame (Oct 18),” Mama said Friday night after the game. “That should be fun, there’s a lot of West Coast players going that weekend and I’m looking forward to going and hanging out with them. I know Juju (Smith) and Tyler (Luatua) will be there and were all real close so it should be good.”
“I still have Wisconsin set for (Oct. 12) and Alabama for (Nov. 8). I’m not sure on my last two trips yet. I know I’ll take them but I’m still figuring out where. I could be Florida or Ohio State. I’ve been to BYU, UCLA and USC several times so I don’t think I need to do an official visit there.”
Mama attended the UCLA-Nevada game two weeks and was planning to attend the USC game this past Saturday as well.
“The UCLA game was cool, they looked real good,” Mama said. “I liked the atmosphere a lot and they got the running game going. Coach (Adrian) Klemm was at the game tonight and that was cool to see him. After a few blocks I had, I made sure to look over and make sure he noticed.
“I’ll be going to the USC game tomorrow with Washington State and will also try and make it for the game with Boston College. I enjoy going to the games so every weekend I have a chance, I’ll try and go watch either USC or UCLA play.”
Editors note- We talked to Mama Friday night after his game but weren’t able to reach him following the game with Washington State to get his post-game reaction.
