Embry Deciding Soon, Talks Final Two
DETROIT—Sidelined with a high ankle sprain for Detroit (Mich.) King’s beat down of Detroit (Mich.) Osborn Friday afternoon, 2014 King defensive back/wide receiver Jalen Embry doesn’t plan on being shelved for too long during his senior season. “I plan on being out just for this week,” Embry told FOXSportsNEXT. “Going to work at practice, see how things work out, and go from there.” Although Embry was relegated to a coaching role in his t-shirt Friday, his responsibilities as a leader of the King football team remained a constant, especially in the second half of the blowout win. “The coaches made the decision to make me and a couple other players, captains,” Embry said. “Being a captain, you just got to lead, keep everybody focused, and make sure everybody is doing their job.” Holding offers from Iowa, Wisconsin, Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Toledo, and Western Michigan, Embry is down to just the Hawkeyes and Badgers as he looks to make a verbal commitment. “In the process right now I’m just trying to make a decision and thinking things over,” Embry said. “Right now, it’s just between Iowa and Wisconsin. Those are the two I’m looking at right now. “It’s basically neck and neck” At Iowa, Detroit native and now true freshman starting cornerback Desmond King has been in Embry’s ear since the Hawkeyes offered in early August. “He talks to me about Iowa and everything that’s going on,” Embry said. “He’s like a recruiter. The coaches are really cool and everything and the coaches say I could have great playing time my first year there.” Over in Madison, the Badgers are presenting Embry with the option of playing on the offensive side of the football, yet another decision he’ll have to make before he can pick one school over the other. “The only thing different (with Wisconsin) is they offered me to play receiver,” Embry said. “So, that’s what’s making it wishy-washy and flipping and stuff like that. Just playing offense or defense. I think I’d make it playing defense if I could get to the league (NFL).” Either way, Embry doesn’t plan on waiting too much longer before coming to a final decision on his college destination. “I’m going to do it probably a couple games from now,” Embry said. Stick on FOXSportsNEXT for Embry’s decision in the coming weeks.
