After registering 43 tackles and 18 sacks as a freshman, Ed Alexander put his name on the map. Scout took early notice and he was named on the 2016 Watch List early this fall. Alexander has a chance to be special...

After four games, Ed Alexander had 13 tackles behind the line of scrimmage. That is strong for anyone, but for a sophomore that is being at least double and sometimes triple blocked, that is special.

Coach John White of Hammond (La.) St. Thomas Aquinas knows he has a real talent to coach for the next two plus seasons.

"Ed has endless ability," said White. "He is getting better every day, every week, and after coaching for 23 years, he is by far the best player I have ever been around. Ed is just different."

White did not know Ed before he enrolled as a freshman and he even greeted the wrong kid the day the two met.

"After meeting him the first day he enrolled, I shook his little brother's hand thinking he was Ed. I was wrong, Ed was the much bigger kid who did not look like a freshman. I turned to my assistant coach and told him to get gear for this young man immediately. I was excited then and even more excited now after seeing him play."

Alexander received an offer from Florida over the summer before he even camped with the Gators.

Ole Miss recently offered the 6-foot-2, 300 pound sophomore defensive tackle and many more will come his way.

Even knowing the talent Alexander has, White was still caught off guard by the early verbal offers.

"The offers surprised me a little because he is so young," said White. This surprised me like it did Ed, so we are going through this together. What I like is Ed is not taking any of this for granted. He loves the challenge, he goes against double and triple team blocks each game, and he is a real weapon for us.

"I have coached guys who have signed Division 2 or Division 3 scholarships and kids that have overachieved in high school, but I have not had a kid like this."

Alexander could challenge for the top spot in Louisiana in 2016.
Like most Louisiana kids, Alexander grew up a fan of the LSU Tigers. He camped there over the summer, he has attended three LSU football games, and he would love an offer from Les Miles.

"I haven't heard a lot from LSU yet," said Alexander. "I did good at their camp, the coaches talked to me, and I have been there for games, but no offer yet.

"I definitely liked LSU a lot growing up being here in Louisiana. I think they have great fans, the players are always well coached, and I would be excited if LSU offered me."

Scout expects that offer to come sooner rather than later.

After receiving an offer from the Gators, the school LSU hosts this weekend, he attended a camp in Gainesville, Fla.

He has early interest in the Gators.

"Florida is a nice place and I liked it when I was down there. I got to talk with Coach [Derek] Lewis (Tight ends), see the stadium, and it was nice. I like how their defense plays too after watching them play on T.V. a few times."

Ole Miss is a school he wants to see now that it has offered and Alabama is another school Alexander would like to visit.

For now, the star sophomore has a couple of offers and he will add plenty names to that list in the coming months.

Coach White loves how his star is handling the early attention and he doesn't think people have any idea just how good this young man can be.

"Ed is such a good kid," said White. "He is humble, he works hard, and he has so much ability. He is a phenomenal person and football player.

"He is an athlete just like he is a football player. He kicks off for us, he was timed in the 40 yard dash at five second flat at LSU over the summer, he leaps onto our 36-inch boxes in the weight room like it's nothing, so he is just a tremendous talent.

"Having a kid like Ed benefits the entire program. We are all excited about what he is doing and what he is becoming."
