"I got offered by Mississippi State last week," said Johnson. "I talked with Coach Deshea (Townsend) and he told me that he wanted me to know that I had an offer from Mississippi State."
Johnson reports that the ice breaking offer was well received by all who cheer for him.
"It is exciting," said Johnson. "I have always liked (Mississippi) State.
"He is talking about me playing either safety or slot receiver if I go there.
"He didn't talk to me about committing or anything like that, but he wanted me to know that I had an offer from them."
Before the news of the Bulldogs' offer had completely sunk in, Johnson had contact with another program who may soon be following suit.
"Ole Miss called like the day after Mississippi State offered me," said Johnson. "They were telling me that they were real interested in me and that they wanted me to come to the game this weekend.
"I was planning on going down there anyway, so I am going to see what they have to say."
Johnson reports that he likes the idea of representing his home state on the next level.
"I have really always liked State and Ole Miss," said Johnson. "I like the Mississippi schools.
"I don't really have a favorite. I am just going to wait everything else and just see what all happens.
"I am not planning on making a decision early."
