Previewing the FOX Sports 1 California game between Bellflower St. John Bosco and Santa Margarita...

High School Football on FOX Sports 1 returns to the Golden State on Friday night at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT when Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco visits Santa Margarita (Calif.) in the Trinity League opener for both.

For Santa Margarita, it's the chance to show that despite Johnny Stanton being in Lincoln, Nebraska, they're still a major force and remind folks that they're still the only Pac-5 school to win a CIF State Bowl Championship since the expansion to five games.

For St. John Bosco, it's their chance to continue their regular season winning streak, which dates back to 2011, and prove they're the best team in Southern California and one of the top ten teams in the country.

Two of the best underclass quarterbacks in the country will face off, with 2016 K.J. Costello leading the Eagles and 2015 five-star Josh Rosen spearheading the Braves.

Santa Margarita:

The Skinny: The Eagles won the CIF State Division I title in 2011, but then was hit hard by graduation last year, as well as injuries, losing Stanton early in the year, but still making it to the CIF-SS Pac-5 quarterfinals.  Head coach Harry Welch is one of the most successful coaches in national history, and has won three CIF state titles and three different schools, Canyon in 2006, St. Margaret's in 2008 and Santa Margarita in 2011.

Santa Margarita on offense: Costello is a Scout 2016 Watch List passer and runs the Eagles offense.  He had a 449-yard game earlier this season against Bishop Gorman.

2015 receiver Kyle Sweet is his favorite target, the two connecting for 300 yards earlier this season against Bishop Gorman.

Jeremy McNichols, a commit to Utah, is a versatile playmaker for the Eagles, playing both running back and receiver.  McNichols played with several St. John Bosco players on the 7on7 circuit, including being one of Josh Rosen's primary receivers.

Santa Margarita on defense:  The Eagles strength is at the linebacker spot, where Joseph McGill and Grady Higgins lead the defense, both combining for almost 130 tackles in the first five games.

Defensive lineman Rick Wade (defensive end) and Randall Swain (defensive tackle), give the Eagles an inside-outside presence.

In the secondary, Rick Ellison and Jonathan LaBonty lead the defense against the pass.

St. John Bosco:

The Skinny: The defending Trinity League champions, St. John Bosco is loaded, with elite players on both lines and at all the skill positions.  Jason Negro used to coach in South Orange County at Trabuco Hills, but returned to his alma mater in 2010 and has made them one of the top programs in the country.  The Braves are ranked No. 8 nationally by FOX Sports.

St. John Bosco on offense: An offense led by quarterback Josh Rosen, the No. 2 quarterback in the 2015 class nationally and a five-star by Scout.com, has been firing on all cylinders all year, especially last week, when Rosen returned and helped the Braves put up 73 points against Crenshaw.

The Braves offense is bolstered up front by Damien Mama, Scout's No. 1 offensive guard prospect in the 2014 class.  The five-star, who has offers from schools like Alabama, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, UCLA and USC, will leave for an official visit to Wisconsin following the game.

Boise State commit Shay Fields is Rosen's top target at receiver, and USC offered him earlier this week.

St. John Bosco on Defense: Defensively, there are few teams as talented as the Braves.

Their line is led by USC commit Malik Dorton and three-star Jacob Tuioti-Mariner at the defensive ends.  Tuoiti-Mariner will be joining Mama this weekend in Madison to visit Wisconsin.

Washington State commit Chandler Leniu, the heart and soul of the Braves defense, is their middle linebacker.

And the secondary is loaded, with Cal commit and four-star Jaleel Wadood anchoring it at safety.  Four-star cornerback Naijiel Hale, who's committed to Arizona, plays opposite three-star corner Chandler Hawkins, a verbal to Air Force.

The Broadcast:  Calling the action on the field is MLB on FOX play-by-play announcer Daron Sutton and analyst Kirk Morrison, a former NFL linebacker as well as Scout.com national recruiting analyst Brandon Huffman, the third member in the booth.  Alex Curry will be reporting from the sidelines..
