Some of the latest major news and recruiting notes from around the Midlands region...

Silvester Hayes, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound defensive end from Dallas (Texas) South Oak Cliff committed to Colorado State on Wednesday night and the coaching staff at the high school confirmed the news on Thursday morning.

"Yes, Silvester committed to CSU," confirmed the South Oak Cliff recruiting coordinator.

Hayes gives the Rams a very significant addition. He picked the school over offers from schools like Toledo and Texas Tech amongst others. Hayes is rated as a Scout.com three-star prospect, the No. 69 defensive end nationally.

It was pretty big news when Jovan Pruitt, a 6-foot-6, 280-pound defensive tackle confirmed via Twitter that he would be taking official visits to other programs.

It had been speculated that the mammoth tackle was looking around, but until the confirmation that he has plans to take official trips to see schools like Arkansas, Baylor, Florida, Oklahoma.

Pruitt, a Scout.com four-star, went on to say that schools like USC, Ole Miss and Missouri were in the hunt for his fifth and final official visit.

With the release of the news he has been readjusted in the database to reflect a "soft verbal" to the Razorbacks.

Myles Garrett, a 6-foot-4, 245-pound defensive end from Arlington (Texas) Martin is set to make his announcement at the beginning of next week.

He will take a trip to Texas A&M this weekend to see the Aggies take on LSU and then select, likely during a Monday press conference, from a list of five finalists: Florida State, Alabama, Ohio State, TCU and Texas A&M.

"I got a place where I am going to play outstanding football, somewhere that is going to take me where I want to go educationally," Garrett informed in a recent interview with Scout.com.

Garrett informed that he wants to be a Paleontologist.

Early in the week, Nebraska grabbed a commitment from Alief (Texas) Taylor safety Josh Kalu. The 6-foot-1, 170-pounder is rated as a scout.com three-star prospect.

"He brings a level of versatility being able to play anywhere in the secondary," Scout.com Texas Analyst Ahmard Vital said of Kalu's strengths as as a recruit.

In addition to his versatility, Kalu brings something extra to the table. He plays in a program that is stacked with potential recruiting targets.

The past two classes at Taylor High have produced nine D1 targets and more are in line in 2015 and 2016.

Kalu also held offers from schools like UTSA, Washington State, SMU, Colorado and Wake Forest.
