Stephen Roberts, the Quarterback

Stephen Roberts is one of the top prospects in Alabama, and the No. 2 cornerback projection in the state behind Marlon Humphrey. However, the Opelika (Ala.) standout has been paying quarterback for the Bulldogs of late because of an injury. Scout was in attendance at his most recent game for a closer look.

Prospect: Stephen Roberts

Vitals: 6-foot, 185 pounds

Position: Cornerback, Quarterback

Class: 2014

Hometown: Opelika, Ala.

School: Opelika High School

Ranking: | No. 29 CB prospect nationally

Recruiting: Committed to Alabama, but has taken several unofficial visits to Auburn this season. Miami is also competing for a visit.

Quick Take: Roberts isn't going to wow with his arm in terms of accuracy, but quick hitters and his athleticism make him effective in spots when he decides to throw. But make no mistake about it, the senior is a run-first quarterback and has improved in his decision-making within Opelika's spread, read-option look. He is elusive enough in the open field to make plays, but excels most with his acceleration and top speed while running with better power than one may think.

Below are select plays from Opelika's October 25 game against rival Auburn (Ala.) High, in which Roberts played almost exclusively on offense. He is wearing No. 4 in red.
