Schmidt Returns to Minnesota

Sioux Falls (SD) Roosevelt junior offensive tackle Grant Schmidt talks about his visit to Minnesota, a school who has already offered him. Did seeing the Gophers' big win enhance their status with him?

Minnesota defeated Nebraska at home on Saturday, and the Gophers had a nice group of recruits in the house for the game, including one of their top junior targets, 6-foot-7, 290-pound offensive tackle Grant Schmidt, who earned an offer at their camp last summer.

"I really enjoyed the game," he said. "I really like how their offensive line played as a unit. They had unique play calling as well. They played a really physical down hill running kind of game that I love too see."

Schmidt had worked with the staff at camp and Saturday's game allowed him to speak with them face to face once again.

"I had a chance to talk to a lot of the coaches, including the offensive line coach and Coach Kill and I think we are both really excited about the future."

Washington State and North Dakota State have both also offered Schmidt, with many other schools interested as well. While he is likely to add more offers through the process, he says the Golden Gophers will be in high consideration.

"Me and Minnesota stand on a common ground. They have been extremely straight up through our whole recruiting relationship. They are one of my top schools."

Schmidt will have several more visits before the end of the season.

"Iowa this weekend, Washington State on the 23rd, and a couple other ones that I just need to get the details set up for."
