And for Branch, it was a big deal because it came from the Big Ten.
Northwestern became the first school to extend an offer to the three-star.
"It just happened," said Branch. "I was surprised. I had to double check with them to make sure that happened."
Branch had missed much of his junior year with a broken collarbone, but starred as a sophomore and when he's played for the Wolverines this year has made a big impact on the top team in the state.
"This is crazy because I missed almost the whole season," said Branch. "But I'm excited."
Branch said the offer came as an outside linebacker.
"Everyone in my family is pretty excited," said Branch.
The Wolverines face Gig Harbor (Wash.) Peninsula this Saturday in the 3A state quarterfinals.
