Kirkland recaps recent visits

Junior linebacker Darrin Kirkland of Indianapolis (Ind.) Lawrence Central recaps his recent visits to Virginia Tech, Michigan and Northwestern.

Junior linebacker Darrin Kirkland, one of Indiana's best in the class of 2015, has taken recent trips to Michigan, Northwestern and Virginia Tech.

Kirkland most recently visited Northwestern this past weekend.

"It was a good visit," Kirkland said. "The academics definitely were my favorite part. I was able to talk with Coach Bates, Coach Springer and Coach Fitzgerald. They all said they were really excited about me and congratulated me on my academic accomplishments, so that was pretty cool."

Kirkland also had high remarks for his visit to Virginia Tech the weekend of Nov. 16.

"The visit to Virginia Tech went great," Kirkland said. "I went with my mom and dad and it was our first time seeing it. We drove there on Friday (about a 7 hour drive from Indianapolis to Blacksburg), and then Saturday we took in the game and toured campus."

"I got to talk with a lot of the coaches," Kirkland added. "Coach Beamer said he was really excited about me and glad to have me visit. Coach Foster talked about watching me play earlier this season and how well I played against Ben Davis."

Kirkland visited Michigan the weekend of Nov. 9, and he'll head back to Ann Arbor for the Wolverines' game this upcoming Saturday. Kirkland has not yet picked up an offer from Michigan.

"Michigan was a great experience," Kirkland said. "They have a great atmosphere and great fans. They say I'm on high on their list at inside linebacker."

Kirkland named Ohio State and Vanderbilt as two other schools recruiting him hard right now. Kirkland holds offers from Akron, Illinois, Indiana, Louisville, Northwestern and Virginia Tech.

He's a four-star prospect and is ranked as the No. 23 outside linebacker in the class of 2015.
