Numerous schools are showing interest in 2015 offensive lineman Nick Polino, but only one has offered. Georgia Tech was first to pull the trigger and that meant a lot to him...

Nick Polino did not see it coming.

Georgia Tech attended a Buford practice one day back in September and the next thing Polino knew was, he was a Yellow Jacket target.

"I was not really hearing from Georgia Tech back when they offered me," said Polino. "Coach [Ted] Roof was out at my practice one day, then after watching me, I got the offer.

"I was very surprised when it happened because other schools were showing me a lot more interest. It was a good surprise for me."

The offer from the Yellow Jackets means a lot to the 6-foot-4, 277 pound junior offensive lineman.

Being first stands out to him.

"Since Tech was first to take that step and offer me it will keep them in the picture for a long time. If I am fortunate enough to get more offers, Tech will still be up there for me because of the faith it has shown in me.

"Offering me a scholarship first does mean a lot to me. It just showed me something and I know how Tech feels about me."

It is hard to say who might be next to offer the three-star out of Buford, Ga. because a number of schools are showing interest.

"Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, and Notre Dame are probably showing me the most interest right now. Back when Tech offered me, Georgia and Tennessee were showing a lot of interest. Notre Dame has really picked it up and they could be close to offering me too. It is hard to know how close they are to offering though."

Polino did not have a true favorite college team growing up. His family was more into the NFL, but his cousin T.J. Greenstone signed and played for Vanderbilt, so the it is a program he knows about.

Georgia Tech has the early momentum in his recruitment because it is the school that offered.

Since making that offer, Polino has attended three games in Atlanta and he likes what he sees at Georgia Tech.

"I have been to the Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia Tech games this season and I like it there," said Polino.

"The academics there speak for itself and the coaches there are first-class guys too. In their offense they run a lot and I do not mind being an 80-percent run block guy. I think I am a solid run blocker. I think it is a good overall school.
