His play over the last three years ended up with him making an offseason commitment to Oklahoma State. No the good fortune for Pearland (Tex.) linebacker Justin Phillips continues as next week he will be on stage with some of the top players in the Greater Houston area.
“It feels great to be honored with these few guys. I’ve put in a lot of work to make it this far,” Phillips said. “I’m just blessed with everything that is going in my life and with my team.”
No doubt about it. His team is coming off a huge playoff win over the state finalist from a year ago. Now the 6-foot-1, 220-pound Phillips and the Pearland team is just two rounds away from getting back to the title game that was won a few years ago.
Phillips, a three-star outside linebacker on Scout.com, has had an impressive 80 tackles, two interceptions and four blocked kicks this season. These numbers were likely key in Phillips being nominated as defensive nominee for the Touchdown Club of Houston player of the year selection.
