Gators Offer Two from Louisiana

The University of Florida football coaches are searching America for the next great Gator football players. Tight end coach Derek Lewis found a pair of teammates in Louisiana.

Tight end coach Derek Lewis has extended offers to Destrehan (LA) teammates Kirk Merritt and Alfred Smith.

Alfred Smith checks in at 5-foot-10, 185-pounds. He has offers from Alcorn, State, Louisiana Tech, Florida, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Tulane and Utah to name a few.

"About 20 minutes ago, I spoke with coach [Derek] Lewis in person," Alfred Smith said about landing the offer from the Gators.

"I feel amazing," Smith Said. "He was like, I have very impressive film and that I am a very good athlete. I want to offer you and he said eh will get his head coach to come see me later on. I am very excited about it."

In addition to offering Smith, Lewis also extended an offer to Athlete Kirk Merritt who plays wide receiver, running back and safety. The 5-foot-10, 195-pound two-way standout has early offers from Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State, Tulane, Washington State and now the Florida Gators.

Keep an eye on teammate Brandon Scott. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound safety has an early offer from Tulane.
