When we talked to defensive tackle Ainuu Taua on Friday, he said if he got that ‘at home’ feeling on his official visit to UCLA, there was a good chance he would commit. The lineman was true to his word.
“I had a great visit, just like I expected,” Taua said. “Anthony Barr was my host but I hung out with all the players. They were great with me and I love everything about the program. I honestly don’t know why anyone would want to play for anyone other than Coach Mora, he’s an unbelievable guy.
“UCLA is close to home and I’m excited to play in front of my friends and family. I like coach Angus (McClure) as a DL coach, he’s a good guy and we have a good relationship. The program is on the rise and I’m just excited to be a part of it. I’m going to try and recruit some of my usos (Samoan word for brothers) and hopefully help build this class.”
Taua took official visits to Ole Miss, Washington State and Oklahoma but UCLA was always the team to beat.
“Once I met Coach Mora and saw how much he cares about his players, I knew I was going to UCLA,” Taua said. “That’s what I want the other guys like Kammy (Delp), Juju (Smith) and Damien (Mama) to see. If they could see how much Coach Mora will take care of us, I don’t see how you go anywhere else.
“UCLA is a great school with so much to offer. I’m going to get in there and work hard and try and earn a spot. They want me as a nose guard and I’m comfortable in that spot. I’m going to work on getting bigger and stronger and hopefully I can come in and make an impact.”
