Hilliman Looking at Options
Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peter's Prep running back Jonathan Hilliman remains committed to Rutgers even as he spends the weekend visiting Boston College and reconnecting with a pair of former high school teammates. Hilliman, who committed to the Scarlet Knights in August, communicated his plans with the Rutgers staff prior to making the trip, according to Marauders coach Rich Hansen. "We're exploring all of the options to cover his bases," Hansen said. "He had a conversation with (offensive coordinator Ron) Prince. His father has reached out to (coach) Kyle (Flood). I think he's been above board and I think he's tried to conduct himself with class and has been forthright with everything he's done. "I talked to Prince on Tuesday, and he had a good conversation with Jon. Jon let him know what he thought he was going to do, and that's what he's doing. He's visiting Boston College this weekend. He has to cover is bases." Rutgers lost a handful of commits during the season after their scholarships were pulled when they visited other schools, but Hansen said that at this time such is not the case with Hilliman. Boston College is home to former St. Peter's Prep players Michael Giacone and Charlie Callinan. "He wants to stay loyal to Rutgers," Hansen said, "but here's the bottom line: a kid has to be selfish, too, because it's ok when a school pulls a scholarship on a kid, but it's not ok for a kid to want to explore his option given dire extenuating circumstances with the school he committed to. "I have no problem with him doing what he's doing. He has to protect his interests." At this point, Hansen said Boston College is the only set visit now, and he is uncertain if any others will take place. "I've gotten calls from a bunch of different places saying they still have a scholarship offer for him," Hansen said. "And I don't even know if he's going to entertain those places. He's just trying to take it one day at a time."
