TEN thoughts from the state championships - Part 7
Junior Torrance Gibson is something special. The Plantation American Heritage quarterback helped led his team to a state championship. In blowout fashion they cooked Green Cove Springs Clay 66-8. Gibson took the read option 78 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the game and he was brilliant all afternoon. He also had
It’s a good thing we are adding the athlete position for the Class of 2015 because Gibson will be near the top of these position rankings. Gibson is a potential five star because few athletes possess his combination of length, frame, speed, elusiveness, and explosion. He could project to at least six different positions: quarterback, running back, wide receiver, H-back, outside linebacker and safety. The fact that he actually shows up every week and makes plays is the icing on the cake.
The real question is what position does he decide to play?
It is wrong to say that he "can't" play quarterback, but he will need to work at it. Remember, many in the Sunshine State labeled Treon Harris everything but a quarterback at this time last year. But this Miami Booker T. Washington standout really improved this season.
The fact of the matter is that he has too many outstanding physical attributes to play this position in college. He has the size, arm strength and athletic ability. Gibson just needs to continue to work hard on his craft, especially the fundamentals and the little things signal callers need to do to be successful quarterbacks in college.
At the same time, there’s no denying that he could very well end up playing another position and be a flat out killer. Yes, Gibson is that athletic. This is a kid that could follow in Sean Taylor's footsteps or Randy Moss's. Yeah, those are big names and this kid has enormous upside.
The bottom line is that Gibson is a super talent who’s blessed with so much God given talent. He has five-star written all over him. Currently, programs like Alabama, LSU and FSU have already offered Gibson.
