Dallas, Texas - Jerrod Heard (6'3/195) is Scout's No. 1 Dual-Threat quarterback, and he showed why as he led his Denton Guyer team to a second consecutive State Championship on Friday. Here is a look at the Texas Longhorn commit in action.

Jerrod Heard (6'3/195) of Denton Guyer was sublime in his performance in the State Championship on Friday night. Heard was named MVP of the game after leading the Wildcats to consecutive titles. Heard was perfect throwing the ball; he didn't have an incompletion, and he's deadly on the run.

Heard is Scout's No. 1 dual threat quarterback and No. 4 in the nation among all quarterbacks. He is smart and patient running the spread option, and he is a better than adequate passer. He can rip a defense apart when a play breaks down, but he's comfortable in the pocket.

From a college perspective he reminds me a lot of Auburn quarterback Nick Marshall the way he moves on the field. He may lack the top end speed of Marshall, but he is a superior passer at the same stage. On the run they look very similar in that both players don't seem to be running as much as gliding around defenders.

Heard is committed to play for the Texas Longhorns next year, and he's fully capable of competing for the job in his first year.
