Recruiting Update: Jake Grant

2015 offensive linemen from Scottsdale (Az.) Horizon is getting plenty of early interest

One of Arizona top 2015 prospects is offensive lineman Jake Grant from Scottsdale Horizon. Scout.com caught up with Jake to talk recruiting and more.

Grant was offered prior to his junior season by the University of Utah and the Utes remain in contact and seem to be a favorite of his. He says, "I went to their two-day prospect camp last June in Salt Lake. I worked really hard and got to work with Coach Finn, their offensive line coach. They ended up offering me after the camp, I am really excited about it."

"I went back on an unofficial visit when they played Stanford and beat them. It was an awesome visit. I got to talk to the coaches a little bit more and meet some o-linemen and they were able to tell me what they think about the program at Utah. I am a big Ute fan, I really like what they are doing up there and I think it is a program on the rise."

Coach Finn also prepped in the state of Arizona and Finn is his main recruiter, "We talk on Facebook," Grant says. "We talk about stuff like how my season went, we lost in the first round of the playoffs, so we talk about how we had a good season but how we can improve and come in next season ready to go."

It is still early in the recruiting process and Grant says that Utah isn't the only school in contact. "Oregon, Cal have been in contact, mostly Pac 12 interest," he says. "But Nebraska has also been on contact and a lot of schools are contacting me on social media."

Played right tackle as a junior and is listed as a guard in the Scout.com database. His versatility also may be attractive to potential suitors. "I can play either," he says. "I may move to left tackle for my senior year but I can also play guard and have been practicing snapping so I can play any spot on the line at the next level."

Other things he is working on for next year, "Conditioning and speed. Just trying to get bigger, faster and stronger this off-season."
