Semper Fi: D.J. Foster

One of three Nebraska commits in southern California for the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl, D.J. Foster isn't satisfied with just a threesome.

GARDEN GROVE, Calif. -- Of the three Nebraska commits at the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl this week, only two are healthy enough to compete – East defensive end Darius Slade and West offensive guard D.J. Foster. That hasn't stopped injured Huskers quarterback commit Zack Darlington from being one of the most social players of the event, particularly when he's teaming with Foster.

"I haven't been able to see everybody yet, but Darius Slade, so we're going to talk to him sooner than later. I'm going to talk to Nick Gates. He's someone we've been looking at," said Foster, who has been trying to land his three-star teammate on the West offensive line – one of the week's top performers. "We're trying to get him to Nebraska, so we're going to talk to him, see if we can hook up, just to talk a little bit and get to know each other."

Foster laughingly said he and Slade may just have to back the 6-foot-5, 270-pounder into a corner and make their intentions known. As for Darlington?

"I'll just make sure that no one else comes in while we're trying to get at him," laughed the 6-foot-2, 205-pound signal caller.

A former MaxPreps All-American, Foster, for his part, is thrilled to be in southern California as part of Semper Fi week, particularly since he gets to hang around with his fellow future Huskers.

"It's definitely a great feeling," Foster said. "I'm happy that I was given the chance to be out here. I was an All-American sophomore year, so it was upsetting not getting it junior year, but I'm so happy that I got it senior year, and being able to do this is a whole lot of fun."

Foster – who has been committed to Nebraska since June – has gotten some attention lately from Miami trying to flip him, and grew up a fan of Alabama.

"I was born in Tuscaloosa, and it was my dream school, but we moved up [to Lincoln, Neb.] when I was seven, so I've always been a ‘Bama fan, but throughout recruiting and all this stuff, I became a Husker fan through that, and I've liked the Huskers ever since," Foster said. "I'm definitely solid."
