"I'm looking forward to the excitement of the game and seeing different players from all over the country," said the 6-foot-1, 210-pound Watson.
The three-star linebacker committed to Kansas last May.
"They made me feel like I was at home when I got there," he said. "They didn't just tell me what I wanted to hear. They were honest with me and that pulled me in."
Watson will have a chance to contribute early in Lawrence.
"They've told me that I have a big opportunity to play," Watson said. "I'm going to play the "Will" linebacker."
Watson took his official visit to Kansas last month.
"They showed me more about the school, not as much about the football aspect," he said. "They showed me how the school is run and how it's a college town. The players and the students stood out to me. They love their school."
Although he is excited about his future at Kansas, Watson's main focus is the rest of the week.
"I'm looking forward to seeing what type of leadership we have because I've always been a leader," he said. "On the football field, I'm looking forward to contact."
Watson is the 60th-ranked outside linebacker in the 2014 class.
