While seniors are finalizing their last official visits or making plans for signing day, underclassmen are starting to hit the combine circuit, and it kicks off in New Jersey on Friday with the Beast of the East.
The scheduled headliner of the event, which begins at 6 p.m. at Total Turf Experience in Pitman, N.J., is class of Haddonfield (N.J.) Paul VI 2015 receiver Irvin Charles, whose offer list includes Boston College, Mississippi, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Indiana, Temple and Virginia.
Glassboro (N.J.) High receiver Juwan Johnson, whose offer list included Virginia, Rutgers, Penn State, Ohio State, North Carolina and Michigan is also slated to be there.
The event is mixed with offensive linemen and skills players, and will be filled with one of the best underclassmen in South Jersey.
For the skills positions, in addition to Johnson and Charles, South Jersey will be represented by class of 2016 Camden (N.J.) High receiver Brad Hawkins (Temple offer), Cherry Hill (N.J.) class of 2016 cornerback Benny Walls (Temple offer), Millville (N.J.) High running back Ryquell Armstead, Paulsboro (N.J.) High running back De’Shaun Burgess and Glassboro’s Ronnie James and 2015 receiver/defensive back De’Ron Maxwell of Woolwich (N.J.) Kingsway (Old Dominion).
Another interesting prospect is class of 2015 Mullica Hill (N.J.) Clearview linebacker/quarterback Sterling Sheffield. Class of 2016 Buena (N.J.) High receiver/linebacker Neal Nelson, who should be a big-time recruit but is looking for his first offer.
Class of 2015 Malvern (Pa.) Prep quarterback Alex Hornibrook (Akron offer) and 2016 Newtown (Pa.) Council Rock North quarterback Brandon McIlwain (Temple offer) are also slated to attend.
Class of 2016 defensive lineman Ron Johnson Jr. (Temple offer) of Camden (N.J.) High is the headliner of the group at the line of scrimmage.
