"Florida State offered me," Johnson said. "I talked to Coach Jay Graham (Running backs) on the phone and he offered me.
"He was going to come by the school, but since we are out, he went ahead and offered me. He will be coming by the school next week to see. It was pretty exciting."
He was aware that the reigning national champs knew about him, but he was not sure about the offer.
"I wasn't really surprised that they offered, but a little surprised in general being I am in a small town. They were really the first big school to talk to me, so I knew they knew about me, but I still cannot say I was expecting it today."
With this offer, the Seminoles have moved into the top group for this 6-foot-5, 274 pound defensive lineman out of Clayton (N.C.) Cleveland.
"FSU plays outstanding defense and I really like that about them," said Johnson. "They always have superstar defensive linemen too and I like their style of play on defense. They are always in attack mode and I like how they bounced back against Auburn after giving up a couple big runs.
"I don't have a leader right now, but Clemson, FSU, and Virginia Tech are ahead in the race right now."
You can expect Johnson's offer list to continue to grow in the coming weeks. Ohio State is showing a lot of interest and Vanderbilt or Wake Forest may be offering in the coming days. Johnson plans to visit Clemson February 1, North Carolina State February 2, and Wake Forest March 1.
The emerging junior defensive lineman finished his junior season with with 80 tackle, 51 tackles for loss, eight sacks, and three forced fumbles.
