Yoemans Working towards Scholarship
This past season found Piqua (Ohio) High School running back Trent Yoemans giving fans flashbacks to another former Indians great as he rushed for 2,007 yards and 23 touchdowns. "Football is like everything to me," said Yoemans. "When I was growing up looked up to Brandon Saine and it's kind of been my goal in life to be compared to him. Next year I'm going to try and surpass him. "I had a great year this year with the yards and everything, but the winning wasn't there. I think that is going to take care of itself next season. School wise, I have a 3.0 GPA and will take the ACT in February." Yoemans uses his great speed to also run several events for the Piqua track team. "I run track and compete in the 4x100, 4x200, the open 100 and open 200," he said. "Right now I'm 5-foot-10, 183-pounds and my last recorded forty was 4.5 flat last spring." A few programs are starting to show some interest in Yoemans. "I've been invited to Indiana," he said. "I've talked with coach (Kevin) Johns when he came and talked with me at school. He talked about me coming over there for a spring practice. "Ball State was in school on Wednesday and Michigan was in on Friday checking us out in the weight room." As for schools of interest, Yoemans has already learned to put childhood favorites aside. "I grew up in Ohio and as a fan of Ohio State," he explained. "However, I really haven't thought about it much because I now also like schools like Michigan State, Cincinnati, Indiana and those types of schools. Honestly, I'm interested in any school that is interested in me." As for his summer plans, look for the standout running back to make several stops. "I plan on attending camp at Indiana and possibly schools like Michigan and Michigan State," he said. "I haven't talked much about it with my coach, but I'll be looking to get my name out there this summer."
