Town grew up a big Trojan fan and landed an offer from USC after camping with them last summer. At the time, the signal caller said he never really gave USC a hard look, with the feeling that current head coach Lane Kiffin was on the hot seat and it wasn't a very stable situation.
After Kiffin was fired, we heard Town would be open to USC once a new head coach was named. Steve Sarkisian wasted no time reaching out to Town and the quarterback already had a solid relationship with OC Clay Helton. When Marques Tuiasosopo came on board, it was another coach who had a strong relationship with Town and the wheels were definitely moving.
Town took an unofficial visit to USC last weekend and told us afterward he loved the direction USC was going and loved how he fit in with the offense. He de-committed from Alabama Saturday morning after sending an email to Tide head coach Nick Saban and took another visit to USC in the early evening.
"I knew USC was where I wanted to be before I took the visit today," Town said. "I had some great meetings with Coach Sark and Helton last week and just had that feeling that USC was the best fit. Before I drove up, I prayed about it and knew I was going to commit but I wasn't sure if it would be today or a couple of days from now.
"Once I got there, everything just felt right and I didn't see any reason to hold off. It was cool how it went down, my parents were there and my brother as well. Coach Sark, Helton and Tui were in a room with me and I said I was ready to be a Trojan. Sark ran and gave me a big hug and everyone was real excited, it was an awesome feeling."
As for rumors of Town dropping Alabama because of Kiffin being named the new OC?
"This had nothing to do with me not wanting to play for Lane Kiffin," Town said. I know everyone is saying that but it's not true. I never really knew Kiffin that well and the one time we talked when he got the Alabama OC job, we had a good talk. This was more about me feeling USC was the best place for me. It's the school I grew up rooting for and I feel like this is an incredible opportunity for me.
"I really want to thank Coach Saban for the opportunity he gave me to be a part of what is an incredible program. He's a great coach but I just feel more comfortable at USC. Location was never an issue but being able to stay close to home is definitely an added bonus for my family to come see me play. I'm really excited right now and I'm looking forward to helping recruit the rest of the 2015 class."
