Eden Prairie (Minn.) tight end Zach Hovey talks about his commitment to Miami (Ohio) and what lead him there.

With eight offers and several preferred walk-on opportunities, Zach Hovey faced a tough decision as to where he would play his college football. That decision got easier last weekend when he went to Oxford, Ohio and came home a Redhawk.

"It was really the visit that did it for me," he said. "When I got there, I connected with the coaches. Coach Martin came there from Notre Dame and brings a lot of football experience. He brought a great staff over and they're going to turn it around there."

Yet, football was only a piece of the decision, as Hovey, a 3.76 student in the classroom has more than just the gridiron in his future.

"Also, the academics did me over as well. I'm thinking about going into business and the Farmer School of Business is top ten in the country. That is the main reason for college because you're not going to play football forever."

Martin and his staff have had some great tight ends in their past from Grand Valley State to Notre Dame and that is not expected to change at Miami.

"They talked about Notre Dame and how they're going to incorporate some things they did there. They used the tight ends a lot and they will use two or three tight ends most of the game, split me out wide, put me in the slot and on the line to block a seven or a six-tech, go in motion once in awhile, so it's a pretty versatile position and I found that very intriguing."

And after taking his recruitment almost all the way to the wire, Hovey is relieved and excited to be finished and have a home.

"It's been a long long process. It has been fun, been stressful, and it's kind of nice to have it over with and hard to end some relationships I've built with coaches. After I committed, I was calling some people I've grown close with the last year, year and half, and that's one thing that's been hard, but like I said, it's nice for it to be over and I can focus on basketball and academics and once basketball is over, get rollin' and get my head in the right place for college."
