Midlands: Final Top Five Centers

Connor Mayes

FRISCO, Texas -- Scout.com finalizes its 2014 positional rankings...

1. Connor Mayes

Nat'l Rating: NA
Pos. Rating: 2
Location: Van Alstyne,Texas
High School: Van Alstyne HS
Size: 6'5|335
Recruiting: Committed to Minnesota

U.S. Army All-American. Throwback style of OL. Very powerful interior offensive lineman. He is just huge. Massive may be a better word, but he carries his weight well and does not look overweight or out of shape at all. He is a great drive blocker. Using his size and power to maul smaller defensive linemen. Once he locks on, you can pretty much take it to the bank that it's over. He loves to finish and inflict punishment. He will need to work on his lateral abilities.

2. Terrell Cuney

Nat'l Rating: NA
Pos. Rating: 6
Location: Jasper,Texas
High School: Jasper HS
Size: 6'3|260
Recruiting: Committed to Texas

U.S. Army All-American. Is not going to be the biggest player on an offensive front, but he uses that too his advantage in a way. He is very quick and active. He fires off the ball and is able to get out and cover up a linebacker in a flash and keep him from making a play. It has to be frustrating throughout the game for the backers. He will also use his quickness to get position on defensive tackles and keep them out of the backfield. Can get out and pull.

3. Brad Lundblade

Nat'l Rating: NA
Pos. Rating: 13
Location: Argyle,Texas
High School: Liberty Christian HS
Size: 6'3|290
Recruiting: Committed to Oklahoma State as a preferred walk-on.

Lundblade was one of top linemen prospects at the Next Level Athlete Texas Top 100 camp, which also included high level prospects like Demetrius Knox, Connor Mayes, Ty Barrett and several others. While those prospects hold early offers from various programs, it was Lundblade who took home offensive MVP honors. It was the second time he had won MVP honors at an NLA camp; he won his first MVP last April.

4. Jacob Bragg

Nat'l Rating: NA
Pos. Rating: 14
Location: Nacogdoches,Texas
High School: Nacogdoches HS
Size: 6'3|300
Recruiting: Committed to Kansas

An Under Armour All-American. He is a powerful interior line prospect and a natural center prospect. He plays with a mean streak and is ver powerful at the point of contact. He is best at clearing lanes for running backs and drive blocking. He has proven himself at national level events, and could be an early college contributor.

5. Najee Toran

Nat'l Rating: NA
Pos. Rating: 18
Location: Galena Park,Texas
High School: North Shore Sr HS
Size: 6'3|258
Recruiting: Committed to UCLA

It's clear that run blocking is his strong suit as Toran is lined up at the left tackle position in the video. And while he is likely to line up as a guard for the Bruins, seeing him fire off the ball and drive through his blocks shows what he is able to do. Please note that some of the time Toran actually blocks his man out of the camera view.
